Led by local cyclists Wes Kendall and A.J. Cox, who have traveled every paved and gravel road in the county by bike, the Greencastle Cycling Club often meets weekly to trace routes known for particular rural beauty, with a focus on safety and fun. Each ride takes a different path, and each normally travels between 14 and 20 miles, lasting about an hour and a half.
Bicycling is one of the best ways to enjoy the beauty of Putnam County. The smells of freshly harvested corn and dusty roads in the fall, freshly plowed earth and warming breezes in spring, and a heavy dew in summer, mix with the beauty of all kinds of terrain and natural environments in this area where prehistoric glaciers melted. Covered bridges, nature preserves, and interesting and unique rural destinations make biking popular here. At certain times of year, the Greencastle Cycling Club leads special series of group bicycle rides open to bicyclists of all ages and skill levels, and those events are posted well in advance on our events page.
