Vulture Vista Ultra

Welcome, intrepid runners, to the Vulture Vista Ultra!

The Vulture Vista Ultra isn’t your typical race. Held in the historic DePauw Nature Park, once a bustling limestone quarry from 1917 to 1977, this unique course offers a challenge unlike any other. Imagine, you stand where mountains of rock were blasted and crushed, transported by steam shovels and railcars. Your footsteps might retrace those of Mr. Robert Mahoney, whose family lived here and witnessed the quarry’s operations firsthand. Now, lush greenery and diverse wildlife reclaim the land, while turkey vultures, with their keen eyes, circle the steamy quarry cliffs.

But this isn’t just a scenic stroll. Prepare to test your endurance on our demanding 4.5-mile loop, designed to push your limits. Choose your adventure: the 6-hour or 12-hour challenge and compete as an individual or on a relay team of up to 4 runners. Conquer as many laps as possible, fueled by the spirit of the land’s transformation and the watchful gaze of the resident vultures. Additional details are available on the “Registration” page and listed below.

This race isn’t just about speed, it’s about perseverance. Each lap takes you past remnants of the past – foundations whispering stories, ponds reflecting the changing sky. You’ll sweat, you’ll push, but with every step, you’ll become part of the park’s living history. And the best part? Your participation goes beyond the finish line. The Vulture Vista Ultra proudly supports two amazing non-profits: Putnam County Parks and Pathways, and AKC A Kinetic Change. Both organizations share our passion for creating outdoor activities and developing local trails for the Putnam County community. By running in this race, you’re not only challenging yourself but also contributing to a healthier and more vibrant future for our community.

So, are you ready to experience the thrill of the Vulture Vista Ultra, conquer a unique course, and support a worthy cause? Sign up today and prepare to run where nature and industry intertwine, leaving an unforgettable mark on your body and soul. Remember, it’s not just a race, it’s a testament to resilience and change – both yours and the land’s. See you on the starting line!
