People Pathways

Like your outdoors downtown? In Greencastle, outstanding unique restaurants are nestled along tree-lined streets with awesome boutique shopping, candy stores and ice cream, all walkable. Two blocks south is DePauw University, with its Peeler Arts Center and Green Center for the Performing Arts and an historic, wooded campus so serene it was named one of America’s “50 Most Beautiful” by Conde Nast “Traveler” magazine.

Residential and commercial historic architecture is everywhere. Four historic districts highlight it, and People Pathways walks/runs/cycles you through it. A network of 20-plus miles of dedicated trails and shared routes in and around Greencastle, People Pathways also links to neighboring communities via the National Road Heritage Trail and USBR50.

Trail highlights include the Greencastle to Fillmore Trail, the Sports Park link from the east side of Greencastle to Big Walnut Sports Park, a loop trail at Big Walnut Sports Park, the Albin Pond Trail, Putnam Nature Trail parts 1 and 2, and the newly opened Hamrick Station Trail. Nearly $2 million has been committed for the development of this trail system to date.
