Enchanted Fairy Trail
To encourage children and the fairy-curious to enjoy the Putnam Nature Trail, a quarter-mile section is home to approximately 40 fairy houses. Park at the People Pathways trailhead east of Manhattan Road, about a quarter-mile south of Veterans Memorial Highway, and walk south for a little enchantment.
This addition is inspired by JD Grove, owner of the downtown Greencastle boutique Conspire Contemporary Craft, who hosted a house-building workshop in late 2022. Children and families decorated birdhouse homes worthy of Putnam County wood sprites, and those are now “hidden” in groupings of three or four along the Nature Trail.
More Fairy Trail phases are planned, with the goal of a mile-long stretch to explore and enjoy. When all are complete, a map will note where the small abodes can be found. Until then, the fun will be in finding the houses on your own.
