BAKER’S CAMP COVERED BRIDGE

Just east of the town of Bainbridge is Baker’s Camp Covered Bridge, also known as Hillis Bridge, roughly a mile south of U.S. 36. It is one of three within a few miles of each other in the countryside surrounding Big Walnut Natural Area.

CORNSTALK COVERED BRIDGE

Taking its name from the creek it was built across, Cornstalk Covered Bridge, is one of the most secluded and unique in the county. Situated west of Roachdale and east of U.S. 231, part of the fun is simply getting there. The lore of the area is particularly intriguing.

EDNA COLLINGS COVERED BRIDGE

If history and architecture weren’t enough, Edna Collings Covered Bridge also provides the thrill of local lore, claiming to be “haunted” by locals. North of Clinton Falls, the bridge spans Little Walnut Creek.

HOUCK COVERED BRIDGE

By-passed in 2012, Houck Covered Bridge is the only covered bridge in Putnam County that is pedestrian-friendly and safe to travel on foot. Surrounded by nothing but field, you can see the bridge from miles away as you approach on the lightly traveled road. Looking to the northeast, on top of the hill, you can see a glimpse of the Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery that holds the remains of Susan Boone Rissler, the great-niece to the famous hunter, Daniel Boone.
